RmacandChe Do it Again

Nicholas Monahan, such a dear lad, has recommended that I post some banter on blogger. I think as a hint to keep his email account clean. Therefore, from time to time, the Rmacandche blogspot will rock out again. As always, stories or rants may take place. They will be here for anyone to mock, sham, love OR get agro with at their leisure. Feel free to leave tips, thoughts, opinions, travel stories, rants or absolutely anything else you may desire.

So here goes,...today's little rant and rave. Subject: health, and Vitamin D

We all know about calcium,...that white stuff that keeps us strong. Or is it white?? Anyhoo, this is simply blatent plagerism on my part: in life, "use your eyes, plagerise." Very interesting article today on calcium,...and more importantly vitamin D. Note, I usually dont shoot, but rather blast from the hip and so it may be enjoyable to bounce this action off of rebecca hurd or julie bowman... Newly graduated ND's! Send them a kiss!

Vitamin D is needed to maintain and absorb calcium. Particularly in Canada, where the sunshine eludes us for so many months of the year 2 things happen: 1). we have higher counts of MS, osteoporosis, and other ailments, 2). we don't get much vitamin D at all!! This may be an important consideration for us to consider for our Palm Springs years. If one wishes to skip down Rancho Mirage to their local costco (pain free!!) then vitamin D needs to be supplemented for during at least 6 months of the year, otherwise when we're older,...which is happening now,...we may be hunched over, or feeling gashola.

Also, a neat point from Dr. Matsen,...an Naturopathic Doc like to above-two mentioned ladies...becs and julie. He states that it is important to avoid tropical foods during our winter months. Why? Well because tropical fruits like mangos, pineapples and especially bananas loaded in potassium confuse our bodies into thinking we are in summer months. The potassium for example will trigger the body to slow down its Vitamin D processing labs because it is convinced it is summer time!! And that in fact we are getting plenty of Vitamin D being created because of the hot weather. This could be very concerning for our bodies to be confused about during dark winter months! This is fun to ponder especially when one thinks that its really only been about 100 years that mankind has been rapidly flying or shipping bananas and avocadoes all over the world, even in winter. So,...stick to tropical foods in the summer and in the winter,...this is time for your proteins, sushis, soups etc.

Vitamin D, and calcium. Could keep us feeling strong and avoiding things like sore teeth, aching hips and bones. Note the key being discussed in this newspaper article is having both. The 'D' aborbs the calcium. Calcium on its own really being lost.
